Grella joins Blackburn and the Socceroos

Socceroos coach Pim Verbeek has selected an extended 27-player squad for the upcoming international friendly match against the Netherlands.

The squad will also stay together for the 2010 FIFA World Cup Asian Qualifier Round 4 match against Uzbekistan in Tashkent on September 10.

Returning to the Socceroos squad are Harry Kewell, Brett Emerton, Michael Beauchamp, Jacob Burns, Ante Covic, Brad Jones, Jade North and Shane Stefanutto.

North and Covic are the only two A-League players in Verbeek's squad.

Scott McDonald takes his place in the squad despite an abductor injury concern during the week.

Also joining the Socceroos in camp is Vince Grella who has just signed with Blackburn Rovers.

The Torino midfielder penned a four-year deal with Rovers overnight and will play alongside compatriot Emerton at Ewood Park after agreeing to a £4 million ($8.61m) offer.

Another Socceroo on the move is Luke Wilkshire who has been sold by FC Twente to Dinamo Moscow for a reported €2m ($3.43m).

The 26-year-old, who has spent the last two years in Enschede after arriving from English side Bristol City, had a contract with the Dutch team until 2012.

Verbeek has thrown a lifeline to former Sydney FC defender Mark Milligan who is still out of contract.

Fresh from his first-ever goal in the English Premier League, Hull City midfielder Richard Garcia gets the chance to earn his second cap for the Socceroos by also being named in the squad.

Australia have a bye on match day 1 in Group A of the 2010 FIFA World Cup Asian Qualifier Round 4.

On that day Uzbekistan will face Qatar in Doha and Bahrain will host Japan in Manama on September 6.

Match day 2 on September 10 will see Uzbekistan host Australia and Qatar meet Bahrain in Doha.

thats pretty much a good-as-u-get squad of aussies barring those injured. nice to see chipper back altho he's nearly old as my dad... notice the next great hope nicky carle is still not on pim's list of faves... hopefully when they play the dutch they at least field an attacking side... djite and jesus up front (mcdonald will be injured) and maybe harry in a 4-3-3. No use playing defense against them if they're at full strength... its a friendly - make it entertaining.. we can lose against netherlands as long as we win or at least draw in Tashkent... thats gonna be tuff.. and go vinnie and wilkshire (albion park junior) - hopefully bresch will get out of sicily too... go aussies

So what about Time Cahill?

Cahill is still injured. He is yet to resume duties with Everton. The same applies to Mark Viduka at Newcastle.
