Ever had one of those "fireworks" kisses - you know the ones - there's an incredible spark between you and your guy and when you close your eyes and kiss him it just doesn't matter what's going on in the world around you.

I've had some really lovely kisses in my life, so I was as surprised as anyone could be when my New Year's Eve kiss sent me in a spin and, yep, there were fireworks and I wasn't anywhere near the city.

It could have been the lucky feeling I had that this hunky stranger had come my way for the midnight kiss. It could have been the tension built in the minute countdown by the DJ as we came closer to each other second by second. It could have been the vodka. No doubt it was a combination of all these things ...

What is it about New Year's Eve that makes a kiss just that little bit more exciting? When you have a lovely kiss like this is it unrealistic to hope for something more?

I know, I know it's just a midnight kiss, but we did chat for a bit and we seemed to get on quite well. Why is it so ridiculous to think that he might want to call me for a date?

There was obviously some attraction there to start with. Surely given that he liked the appetiser he might want to see what's on the menu for the main meal?

It seems the New Year Eve's kiss isn't much more than your good old party "pash and dash". It just has a slightly more glamorous setting, slightly higher-than-normal anticipation and, of course, that countdown. But you can't let yourself get too carried away and start thinking you've met the man of your dreams. Maybe some people do meet their future partners like this, but for most a kiss is just a kiss.

Being single on this particular night of the year gives you freedom to kiss that boy you've been eyeing all year or all night. It gives you the chance to snog the biggest spunk in the bar without even asking his name or make out with the cute nerd who never gets a New Year Eve's kiss - whatever tickles your fancy.
