They are all part of the dating game.
The reason TV shows like Sex and the City exist is the fact that we can relate to all the dating stories that are part and parcel of the singles scene.
The good, the bad and the ugly.
We've all seen self-destructive relationships and meaningless liaisons. We've all heard about the one that got away and the one they should never have been with in the first place.
But we're not in New York City. We're in the suburbs. Dating in the suburbs. Looking for love in the suburbs.
I'm not wearing Manolo Blahniks or regularly drinking cosmopolitans over lunch but I've learnt a thing or two about relationships in recent years.
So while it seems that men, dating, sex and some of the ridiculous situations we seem to get ourselves into are a universal theme, this is a column with a distinctly local flavour.
So, in true Sex and the City style, but with a southern suburbs of Sydney twist, I hope you'll find Sex and the Suburbs entertaining and somewhat reassuring.
Next Thursday I'll discuss the ground rules for dating in the suburbs: the do's and don'ts of dating on home turf where everybody knows everyone and things start to get messy as soon as dating and sex come into the picture.
