A HURSTVILLE woman will appear in Sutherland Local Court later this month charged over a quarter-of-a-million-dollar mobile phone fraud.
The sales assistant has been charged with 13 offences so far and police say another 47 counts are likely to be brought.
Detective Sergeant Lindsay McGillicuddy of Hurstville police said management at a Hurstville mobile phone shop contacted police last month after an audit revealed a major discrepancy in the number of pre-paid phone cards sold by staff.
The audit found almost 1800 recharge cards had been ``sold'' by the store in the five months to June but no payments had been received.
It is estimated the cards were worth more than $268,000.
A 22-year-old woman was arrested on Tuesday and questioned by investigators at Hurstville police station.
She was charged with 13 counts of obtaining benefit by deception and conditionally bailed to appear in Sutherland Local Court on July 24.
Detective Sergeant McGillicuddy said it is alleged the woman was printing off the re-charge vouchers when no other staff were around, then selling them on to pocket the money herself.
``At this stage we don't believe any other parties are involved but we're open to that line of inquiry,'' he said.
He said the company had identified a number of phones the vouchers were used in, and inquiries were continuing in relation to that.
