Woman in motorcycle crash

13/05/2008 4:37:00 PM
A female motorcyclist was airlifted to St George Hospital this morning after crashing in the Royal National Park and suffering serious head injuries.

The woman was riding on Sir Bertram Stevens Drive when she came off her motorcycle about 11.15am.

A NSW Ambulance Service spokesman said paramedics rushed to the scene and found the woman drifting in and out of consciousness.

She was taken by ambulance helicopter to St George Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

They seem to think the Royal is a race track as just about every motor bike that comes through does it at maximum speed. I would like to see the statistics on the bike accidents in the park. I seems one every couple of weeks. They may have to put speed humps in there to help slow them down.

What the hell are you on about Theburgh? Put speed humps in the national park!? Are you nuts? There will be a 1000% increase in accidents in the National Park. Only an incompetent human would think that the Royal National Park is a "Race Track" espically when you have so many dangers like trees, moss, Pot holes and High rock walls, they are only some of the dangers yet you are only targeting bikes that 'Speed' though the park. You ask nearly every biker who rides though the "Nasho" and you ask them how fast they actually go though it. God even i'm not that stupid to speed in the National Park.

Tia is one of my dearest friends and it is so hard to see her totally injured beyond belief in St Georges Hospital. My wishes and heart is with her though this heartaching state. NUMS. RRR <3

Brendan do you live near the park as I do? I am not saying your mate deserves the injury's and I fell very sad about her condition. I have worked in the park and have seen the speed the bikes travel through the park. It has become a race track.

I would just like to say that in this story that people jump to a entire conclusion that the motorcyclist was speeding. I know people who have fallen off at less than 50 km/h and racked up some nasty injuries. People have said that it has turned into a race track...than offer some suggestions on how to stop it from being a race track? I/We would actually like to hear it. For starters they should repair the entire road, not sections of it before any considerations for speed humps. Nothing you can do will stop stupidity of crazy minority riders who do treat it like a race track. RRR

worked in the park again yesterday and 90% of the bikes were doing well over the speed limit. The cars that travel trough the park are sight seeing the road seems fine for that. I must again say I hope your freind recovers. At no time did I say your freind was speeding she may have been in that 10% that ride through the park for the veiw.

As a result of this tragic accident the life of a 22 year old girl, truely as beautiful a person on the inside as she is on the outside, has hung in the balance. As stated by the car drivers who witnessed the accident it was not attributed to speed, rather she lost control when riding over a rippled / pot holed section of straight road. There are no broken bones and very little by way of road rash etc. unfortunately however there was a heavy impact to head head (full face protective helmet worn) during the fall. Uninformed opinions attempting to stereotype this accident / motorcycle riders in general are particularly unwelcome and do little to lessen the grief of all of the relatives and friends involved. Our prayers are with you Teua, please come back to us soon.
