St George TAFE students have designs on a big future

These flamboyant gowns might not be the first thing you would think of slipping on when you were going to a party.

But these designs are a glimpse of the future of Australian fashion.

Final-year fashion students from St George TAFE showcased their latest work for their teachers and the Leader cameras last Friday.

Students were asked to produce a haute couture garment inspired by technology and the Ancient Mayan civilisation featured in the 2006 film Apocalypto.

The works were marked by a panel of teachers and will form the basis of the student's final marks.

See Thursday's Leader for the full story.
