Olympic effort ahead

30/08/2008 5:00:00 AM
SUTHERLAND Sharks have been strengthened for their sudden-death Premier League finals clash with Sydney Olympic today.

David Reid will be back from injury and veteran defender George Souris has also been named.

Souris suffered ankle ligament damage in the final game of the season proper, against Wollongong, almost four weeks ago and his fitness will be re-checked this week.

The NSW Football Association bowed to the wishes of the Sharks in setting the final for Saturday (7.30pm) at Seymour Shaw Park, Miranda.

A second final in a row on their artificial grass surface should give Sutherland an advantage, but they know they've been beaten by Olympic this year.

``Olympic won't be any easier to beat than Wollongong,'' said Sharks coach Brian Brown, who desperately wants another chance to even the score against the Wolves in Sunday week's grand final, after the Wolves won 2-1 in extra time last Sunday.

Watching 29 yr old Shane Lyons walk from the field after receiving his first ever Red Card in his 23 year playing career sparked outrage from the Sutherland fans at last Saturday night's clash with Sydney Olympic. The first yellow card was issued without fair witness from either the referee who had his back to the incident between Lyons and Olympic's Paul Wither or the Linesman who was up towards the game play at the other end of the field. Wither had been manhandling Lyons in front of the grandstand and it was obvious to all onlookers who started it. Lyons attempted to inform the Ref of what had ensued but he refused to listen. It is frustrating that mistakes made by refs can affect a player's career so significantly.
